Introduction |Nakatsu Castle
Built by the brilliant Sengoku-era strategist Kuroda Yoshitaka, Nakatsu Castle is one of Japan’s three major “water castles.” During the Edo period, the castle was ruled by the distinguished Okudaira family, renowned for their achievements in the Battle of Nagashino and the Battle of Shitarahara.
In modern times, Nakatsu Castle (Okudaira Historical Museum) was selected as one of the “Continued Top 100 Japanese Castles.” With praise from the late Queen Elizabeth, the castle gardens were designed by Kazuyuki Ishihara, known as the “Green Magician,” making it Japan’s only “Castle of Flowers.”
Here, visitors can learn about the history from the Sengoku to Edo periods while enjoying beautiful flowers blooming all year round. The castle warmly welcomes guests for an immersive experience.
