Introduction｜Takahashishi Nariwa Museum

The Nariwa Art Museum in Takahashi City is Okayama Prefecture’s first municipal art museum, established to honor the legacy of Western-style painter Kojima Torajiro, who was born in Naraha Town. The museum originally opened in 1953 and was rebuilt in its current location with its third-generation building in 1994. Designed by renowned architect Tadao Ando, the museum features striking concrete walls beautifully integrated with the surrounding greenery, creating a harmonious and inspiring environment for visitors.

Tsuyama Castle, a hilltop castle built by Mori Tadamasu on Mt. Tsuruyama, was dismantled during the Meiji period following the abolition of castles. Okayama Korakuen is a daimyo garden built during the Edo period by Ikeda Tsunamasa, the feudal lord of Okayama. The garden features expansive lawns, ponds, tea houses, and is designed as a “strolling garden” that allows visitors to enjoy the scenery while walking. Historical structures such as the lord’s residence Enyōtei and a Noh stage are also preserved within the garden. The Okayama Prefectural Museum was established to collect, preserve, and pass down cultural heritage from prehistoric, ancient, and early modern periods, while displaying representative artifacts.
