Introduction|Aizome Workshop Chizu Blue
A group of women from Chizu, inspired by the ideas of ‘creating local specialties of Chizu Town’ and ‘dyeing without polluting Tottori’s water sources,’ founded the indigo dyeing studio Chizu Blue in 2005. They cultivate Japanese indigo (Persicaria tinctoria) from seeds and carefully handpick only the leaves for dyeing, producing the clear, deep indigo color unique to Chizu. The designs are inspired by Chizu’s beautiful cedar forests and serene landscapes, and are crafted with the spirit of ‘Made in Chizu.’ After a transition in 2020, the studio is now run by a team of women aged 30–50. The staff are vibrant and diverse, encouraging and understanding each other, continually exploring ways of working that suit them best. Chizu Blue is a place where people can authentically express themselves and enjoy their work. Both employees and visitors are encouraged to freely express their individuality, and the studio strives to create products and spaces that convey this atmosphere.
