Introduction ｜Wakasa Railway

The Wakasa Railway, stretching 19.2 kilometers, is a beloved local line known for its nostalgic countryside scenery. A total of 23 related sites along the route, including the terminal Wakasa Station, which have been registered as Tangible Cultural Properties of Japan.
The sightseeing train and station buildings, designed by renowned railway designer Eiji Mitooka, famous for the “Seven Stars in Kyushu” luxury train, are also popular highlights.
Visitors can purchase a special ticket set that includes an all-day unlimited ride pass and an access ticket to paid areas such as the turntable and water tower inside Wakasa Station, making it the perfect way to fully enjoy the charm of the Wakasa Railway.

Instructions & Notes

  1. Redemption Method: 
    Please go to the ticket window at Wakasa Station on the Wakasa Railway and present your QR code. A special package, including a one-day pass and an admission ticket to the paid area, will be provided.
  2. Window hours: 06:00~19:00
    Traveling to Wakasa Station from Koge Station: 
    When boarding the Wakasa Railway train, you do not need to purchase a ticket. Simply board the train and ride to the final stop, Wakasa Station (no getting off along the way during the outbound trip). Upon arrival, show your QR code to the driver or train staff, then proceed to the window to exchange for your ticket as soon as possible.
  3. Please check the official website for operating hours (first to last train).
  4. No alternative service will be provided if the Wakasa Railway is suspended due to bad weather.

  5. For the Tottori Station to Koge Station section on the JR Inbi Line, a separate ticket is required (240 yen one-way). 
    Adults with a pass can bring up to two preschool children on the Wakasa Railway for free. A ticket is required for the third child (child fare).
  6. Children in elementary school and below can enter the paid area of Wakasa Station for free.
