Instructions & Notes

  1. Open year-round / Hours: 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM / Departures every hour on the hour ※Due to earlier sunsets in winter, the 4:00 PM departure is suspended.
  2. Please note that operations may be suspended at short notice for safety reasons due to weather conditions. Please check the timetable on our official website before boarding.
  3. Please present your QR code at the Rest House Sightseeing Boat Reception Desk No. 1. Your boarding pass will be issued.
  4. No exchange for cash.
  5. The Company shall not be liable for any theft, loss, or damage occurring after the boarding pass has been exchanged.
  6. Please purchase your second-floor green tickets on board after boarding the sightseeing boat.
  7. After exchanging your boarding pass at the ticket counter, please line up at the sightseeing boat boarding area.
  8. Boarding will proceed in the order in which passengers line up at the large ship pier.

This is the family temple (Bodhi temple) of the Date clan, dedicated to Date Masamune, the founder of the Sendai Domain, and completed in Keichō 14 (1609) after five years of construction.The main hall features a traditional hon-gawara tiled roof and presents a majestic appearance. Inside, each room is decorated with richly colored folding screen paintings and intricate carvings, carefully designed according to the function of each space. This reflects Date Masamune’s bold yet refined aesthetic sensibility. As a valuable architectural heritage that preserves Momoyama-period art to the present day, the main hall, kitchen area (kuri), and corridors have been designated as National Treasures, making it one of the most important Zen temples in the Tohoku region.
