When visiting Okinawa, you must experience the local Ryukyu culture. In the Ryukyu village, you can find traditional architecture preserved from the past. Some of the buildings are even designated as Tangible Cultural Properties of Japan. There are various activities In the village, including trying on Ryusou, laying the sanshin, fabric dyeing, and DIY crafts. You can also enjoy plenty of performances in the village. Built in the early Edo period, this historic merchant residence boasts a 400-year history and is the largest and oldest of its kind still standing. Tsuyama Castle, a hilltop castle built by Mori Tadamasu on Mt. Tsuruyama, was dismantled during the Meiji period following the abolition of castles. The Nariwa Art Museum in Takahashi City is Okayama Prefecture’s first municipal art museum, established to honor the legacy of Western-style painter Kojima Torajiro, who was born in Naraha Town. The museum originally opened in 1953 and was rebuilt in its current location with its third-generation building in 1994. Designed by renowned architect Tadao Ando, the museum features striking concrete walls beautifully integrated with the surrounding greenery, creating a harmonious and inspiring environment for visitors.
